Get Battery first, it's an amazing AoE killer when used properly. Max it first.
Get one level of cage next to trap your opponent and then use battery for an easy first blood if possible.
Get Missle after one level of cage and max it, this is your 'normal nuke'. Max it.
Max cage after Missle, it will keep them close to your Battery longer.

Core Item Build:

1) Bracer(s) OR Vanguard
2) Strength Treads
3) Void(If Going Linkens) OR Bottle
4) TP scrolls (Buy as needed)

Luxury Items:
1) Radiance: Adds AoE Damage for a better battery assault.
2) SnY: Adds Health, Attack Speed, Speed, and Damage for better overall stats.
3) Shiva's Guard: Slow the enemy, add some EHP, and get some more mana.
4) Linken's Sphere: Blocks a disable while charging the enemy and get some more health and mana as well as mana regen.
5) Heart of Tarrasque: More Health, More Damage, More Tankability.
6) Assault Cuirass: More Tankability, More Support, More DPS.

Explanation:

Early game I'd grab two circlets and some tangos if your going bracers, or a stout and some tangos if you're going Vanguard.

I make Bracers or Vanguard first to get a quick health boost as I like diving into enemies (or hookshotting into them) to pull off my combos. Next, I grab boots for the obvious reasons, your speed will be 360 afterwards. That's pretty good.

Next I grab some mana regen because you're starting to gank and don't want to be waiting for any mana. Whatever you want for mana regen is fine, you don't need too much of it so a Bottle or Void usually covers it. Get the Void if you plan on making a Linkens.

Now we're getting into the luxury items. Pretty much take whatever fits your situation and desires.

If you're going Radiance, get it now because it loses it's effectiveness over time.
If you go Radiance, I suggest grabbing one of the health giving items after as everyone will probably focus you even more now.

In place of Radiance you could grab Linkens for the spellblock, mana regen, and health. If you're taking this route be sure to take a Void Stone earlier.

SnY is good for some more health and chasing down enemies. If you're having trouble getting gold it may be easier to get than the others as it comes in small pieces.

After grabbing a health item as a luxury item first, Shiva's Guard or Assault Cuiriass would be a good choice for becoming a tanking initiator.
Shiva's slows down attackers as well as provides you with more EHP through armor and it's AoE damaging slow is always a nice addition. Assault Cuiriass increases your attack speed and EHP as well as increasing the damage done by all of your team.

Strategies:

Trap Rattling

Get close to your victim, activate your battery, then activate your cage. When the cage runs out, keep running next to your enemy, and if possible step in front, hit them, and continue chasing until you get in front, then repeat.

Trap, Rattle, Blast!

Do some Trap Rattling, but missle your own cage while you're in it with your victim for added damage.

Hook, Line, Sinker.
Hook yourself to your victim, activate battery, wait until the stun ends, run alongside your enemy (if they moved), cage, missle the cage. This is your ultimate combo.

Early Game:
Try to get Sentinel Bot or Scourge Top and a disabling lane partner for early game. If you happen to be against their solo then at level 2 have your ally disable them, get behind them and pull off a Trap Rattle from the strategies above. This should net you first blood. Afterwards, stay in your lane to gather last hits and some experience. Don't be afraid to gank once you have a bracer and boots as your abilities are very powerful early.

Mid Game:
This is your time to shine. Gank using the Hook Line, and Sinker combo above whenever you see a hero alone in their lane. Be sure to participate in any team battles and help your allies if they are in trouble. You should complete your core items except for radiance during early and mid game.

Late Game:
Late game becomes more about team battles. Let someone else initiate unless you have a heart, then hookshot a low health target and perform the Hook, Line, Sinker, strategy. Late game you should get a radiance to improve your damage during this or a heart to allow you to better withstand punishment during this.

This skill build is taken from DotaPortal. I hope this can help you and i will like to hear your experience with Rattletrap the Goblin Clockwerk :)

I tried this guide half an hour ago. Besides from my team consisting of a skilled dude watching friendlies die ('on purpose' as he said), 2 guys feeding, and later on, selling their items to buy an army of cuiriers, the noob host, and me, i got a 6/5 score. I think that, as a first try with that team, is pretty good.

There was alot of "wtf"'s, especially at my first kill vs. luna. I used the hook, battery, cog, rocket combo. At that point the other team was already well fed, so i wasn't in front with items.

The game ended with me as my teams top score 6/5, and troll as the other teams topscore 22/1 T_T

as the cogs explode it causes damage on the HP and mana of the enemy around the cogs.. when denying cogs do they still cause damage?? cause then it would be a good combo when trapping the enemy then just attacking my own cogs instead of attacking the enemy..

cucchulain said...

oh wait it doesnt work that way sorry for the misinterpretation.. cogs work when enemies make contact with them.. rattletrap's gank skill also his escape skill.. use on tight spots and destroy one on the side opposite where the enemies are.. nice guide..

About the Rocket Flare, you have an advantage in supporting yourself and your team. You can use it to interfere other lanes or any positions in the map although you're not there on that spot. That missile is very useful for team battles besides adding damages in your combo.

This hero is outstanding. I believe Rattletrap will be a popular choice among players in the future.

Ugh, Rattletrap is annoying!!!
Getting screw up by him for several games. A good Pudge player will dominate with this hero. I even see him rape mirana, battery, cog, mirana leap, Clockwerk hook -> GG. The most annoyed think is, the ministuns from battery! It often cancel/delay your spellcast. I think Naix or Shadowfiend is a good counter against him :)

PS: Hoping some nerf from IceFrog :D

Keisuke said...

Yeah. His battery stops channeling spells. 15 seconds is too long for a low manacost skill, it's better to nerf it by shortening its battery duration. 8 seconds will be enough maybe...

Well, every hero does have their strength and weaknesses. And some of them are annoying due to their specific strength. Let's see how Icefrog will manage on Rattletrap in the next map. No offence...

this character owns!!! got a great game in the first try...bracers vanguard treads perseverance and you're done you could kill by then....or even with less items....i haven't got the chance to try radiance though....

i have an opinion,. how bout f we add ginsoo and manta style to his luxury items,.. i think it is effective for both support and damage in late game,.. it also add to his combo.. ginsoo, battery, cage, rocket then hook and manta 4 the finishing.. expensive items tho.. but i havent tried cage and manta combo, thus the clones fit in the cage? hehe.. need ur opinion

alief said...

Hmm, i think gynsoo might be overkill for him. Hook + Cog is enough to kill a hero if do it well. We also don't need the mana regen since his skills is cheap. About manta, i haven't tried yet, but if the images from manta is created inside the cog, wow, it's great :)

PiYoTa said...

yeah i think ginsoo might be overkill for him f we are in a 1v1 battle but since dota is a team battle, i agree ginsoo is a good choice.. and about manta + cog, yeah i cant wait to try it....

i try this..2 strength bracer..streght thread..vladmir offering..vanguard..MKB..for fast battle...nice hero ~_~

this hero is more harder than pudge.,.... well is a mechanic pudge

@keisuke - I think Clockwerk is not that great. It's true that in the beginning, a lot of people get a lot of kill with him, but after several days, people getting familiar with his skills and begin to counter him. But it's true that some of his skill maybe need nerf.

@piyota - i think your teammate can get gynsoo for you, but not for this hero. It'll be better to make him tank more damage, because when it comes to team battle, your skills must be used in short range and often that will place you in the center of attention.

@Miprazz - Actually, this hero really similar to Pudge, but they have their own difficulty. Pudge hooks is slow, while clockwerk is fast. The one that rather difficult to master is launch Goblin rocket to land in the right time and place. If you can use it this skill is great to give finishing blow or even kill steal :p Cog also like Furion's sprout, if you use it in the wrong time, you can either screw yourself trapped with a lot of enemies or let your enemies escaped while you are trappped.

Sorry for the long reply :D This is just my personal opinion, feel free to say yours :)

Thanx for your lengthy opinion :}

Power Cog is a mediocre skill. :( i guess it's a kind of way to balance out his skills (3 awesome skills, 1 sucky one). Although, this skill can save your ass. Say your opponent's a melee basher like troll or slardar, you could cast Power Cog and tp the hell out of there :))

The best combo is power cogs battery assult then when he runs use hookshot.

i think the best items for tha combo is manta style becuz u can just trap him with cogs and then use illusons

i agree with this opinion

This item build that u reccommend is not too bad. I use this for my own build also. and i agree with u that early game, this hero is good, but he will become a target of attack soon after early game. that is when things get difficult, and it gets very hard to farm...... when it is hard to farm, goblin will then sucks to the core.... haha

Hehe i personnaly prefer ring of basillus (for vlad) and you can spam rocket at lvl 1, good harrassing skill, stout and finish vanguard, when vanguard is done you pretty much can kill any hero...then go for battlefurry for the health/mana and dmg + to farm creepwaves. By now abt midgame, finish vlad, then cuirass, i dont know why...but i get threads the last...clockwerk doesnt really need to run fast, his hook is enough.Powercog can also be used to save your friends, say your friend running back home, some dudes chasing, run to them, pop cog and they will get bounced away XD

Hmmm someone above mentioned Necro. I love this item BUT i tried it and its kinda...crappy. if you use before you attack, the necrospawnlings block you, inside of the cog most of the times they are spwaned outside:-(
And once again. His ASP is crappy, he REALLY attacks slow as hell. and i cthink he needs the MS as he needs to get clos to his oopponent and When i see clockwerk movin, i run as hell away from his, so h needs to be faster, especially as his hook has a rather huge CD, and skilling rockets early still is retarded, harassing is dumb, as you need to kill the enemy early and without cogs he'll (well i do!) laugh about your crappy gameplay coz i can run to the tower, you still wanna beat me there?

Clockwerk is a kinda weird hero to play.
The diffusal -> manta build is kinda crappy because you don't have enougth mana regen and pool to cast all your spells. Excepted if you have a maiden with you !

Usually i go early perseverance to get ready to fight anytime, and to go creep forest if low HP.
Then go phase boots as soon as possible, it's important to get fast enougth through creeps and hero to trap it in cogs without getting pushed out.

After that I usually choose bloodstone witch extends mana and life pool, and regen which are important, cause middle game it's more your range dps allied than you who kills. But you still have rocket and hook to kill cowards ^^.

Battle fury is prefered with bracers, make it if you have some vulnerable gang hero in enemy forest.

Rocket flare can be used to creep on lane, to scout runes, forest, or hook spots. And of course rocket spam early is .... annoying.

Rocket is also useful to protect from tower push, but don't use it on distant lanes to waste xp and gold.

after bloostone i recommend to go for bkb or tarasque depending on situation, to be hard to kill.
Because late game... you become pretty useless. Make sure that a dps/nuker assists you, make a mess, split teamfight with your cogs, chase low hp, rocket scout and win this game.

To finish, you have to choose the way your rattletrap levels up. If you want to level rocket or machine gun at the beginning depending on enemies on the lane (don't try to machine gun a maiden -venge lane for exemple !)

I think that's all, i guess it's important to think teamplay with this hero or you'll never be efficient late.
